SCOPE OF ROLE: The Grocery Shopping Volunteer will assist the Resource Development Department in ensuring that clients without appropriate transportation to grocery stores are able to acquire food for their families. Volunteers will drive clients to grocery stores and may assist with shopping if needed. While clients save up enough money to purchase a car or to utilize ridesharing services, this role will help clients continue to access food for their families!

COMMITMENT: 

  • Days and times: fl exible based on client and volunteer availability (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:00 pm AND/OR every 2nd and 4th Saturday from 11:00am to 1:00pm preferred for clients who require food pantry support)
  • Frequency: biweekly
  • Hours: 2-3 hours per shift

LOCATION: Client home (typically Richmond city or Henrico), grocery store/food pantry

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle with space for groceries for a large family
  • Willing to take client to both a general grocery store (Wal-Mart, Food Lion, Kroger) and a culturally-appropriate store (halal markets, international markets, etc.)
