Job Readiness Training (JRT) Teacher-Volunteer

Position Description: The Employment/JRT volunteer will work with IRC’s Employment Specialist and JRT Coordinator to provide basic employment and job readiness training for refugee clients upon their arrival. The IRC enrolls clients in an employment program that includes job readiness training, resume preparation, job search and placement, and financial assistance and budgeting. Volunteers are trained by IRC staff to teach all JRT classes.

Responsibilities:

  • Will work with IRC staff to conduct JRT classes based off of IRC curriculum. Curriculum may include; resumes, interviewing skills as well as “soft skills” such as the importance of being on time, dressing appropriately and using appropriate language.
  • Assist clients with email set-up, resume development, and filling out online job applications;
  • Maintain client documentation and case files;
  • Collaborate with the employment specialist to ensure client’s needs are fulfilled.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Working towards or have completed an associates or undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Social Work.
  • OR Previous experience in the area of workforce development, job training, employment services.
  • OR Willingness and eagerness to learn, personal alignment to the mission of IRC-Wichita.

Time Commitment

IRC asks for a minimum commitment of 4-6 months of volunteering, with at least 8-12 hours per month. If interested, please submit a volunteer application.
