Location: Remote - Sacramento, CA 
Duration: Internships require a commitment of 4 months, 15 hours/week, or minimum of 240 hours total.

SCOPE OF WORK: 

 The Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Department, provides essential oversight of program quality assurance, data management, and compliance across all organizational levels. MEL ensures programs meet high standards through accurate outcome documentation, internal monitoring, audit preparedness, and staff training on data systems. The MEL Intern will support these efforts by assisting with data entry and analysis, report creation, and preparation for monitoring activities and trainings, gaining hands-on experience in how data informs program quality, learning, and accountability within a nonprofit setting.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Data Management and Quality Assurance  

  • Assist the MEL Coordinator with routine data management tasks on a weekly and monthly basis; 
  • Perform accurate data entry, clean and organize spreadsheets, and resolve data gaps to maintain data integrity; 
  • Review program case files using standardized checklists to ensure completeness and compliance. 

Reporting and Documentation  

  • Generate reports using internal database systems and maintain organized records using Box; 
  • Support the preparation of audit materials and ensure data compliance with IRC and funder requirements. 

Data Analysis and Insights  

  • Analyze program data to identify trends and insights related to service delivery and client outcomes; 
  • Work with the MEL Coordinator to develop data-driven recommendations that support program improvement and strategic decision-making. 

Administrative and Program Support 

  • Provide administrative assistance by creating forms, spreadsheets, and flyers to support program activities; 
  • Attend and document meetings, ensuring accurate note-taking and effective information sharing across teams; 
  • Collaborate on cross-functional projects, demonstrating flexibility and initiative in supporting various program needs. 

Client Engagement  

  • Interact with clients in a professional and respectful manner, ensuring their questions and concerns are appropriately addressed. 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across cultures and maintain professionalism with clients and staff; 
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage sensitive information confidentially; 
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively is essential, along with a flexible and positive attitude; 
  • Basic computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel, are required, and a willingness to learn new software is important; 
  • An interest in nonprofit work and data management is strongly preferred.
