SCOPE OF ROLE: The School Integration Volunteer will assist the Youth Team in providing parents with the tools to become more active participants in their children’s schooling. Volunteers will meet with families individually to set up, and help navigate, PowerSchool (the online school platform for parents) and Parent Square. They will also assist in connecting families to local resources such as libraries and community centers. This role will allow for parents to better support their children's education and integrate them into their new community.

COMMITMENT:

  • Days and times: Flexible depending on Client and Volunteer
  • Availability Frequency: Every 2 Weeks
  • Hours: 2-3 hours per shift

LOCATION: Client Houses and Community Resource Centers

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Meet Clients in their homes and give short School Integration Presentation Assist in PowerSchool account set up Walk through the website with parents and show them how to check their children’s grades and assignments Show clients how to get the application on their cellphones so they can check consistently Come up with a plan to implement with parents to stay involved in their children’s education Bring clients to relevant community resources and assist in enrollment (library card, Museums for All Membership etc.) Follow up with clients about actively utilizing PowerSchool Report progress back to Youth Team Specialist

Competency to set up online accounts Willingness to learn how to utilize interpreters Comfort following short lesson plans Excellent communication skills Ability to follow up with families after initial contact Organization skills with attention to detail Comfort working in fast-paced environment Ability to adhere to IRC professional standards and volunteer policies including those around boundaries, confidentiality, COVID-19, etc.
