Description of Activities: 

The program serves about fourteen students, many of whom are siblings, and emphasizes SEL development alongside ELL support. Activities include:

  • Exploring five SEL areas:
    Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Responsible Decision Making, Relationship Skills
  • Using children’s literature to engage students in discussions and activities.
  • Providing ELL support in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
  • Administering short 3–4 question pre-assessments at the start of each topic and post-assessments at the end.

The program occurs on the following Wednesdays:
February 4, 11, 25
March 4, 11, 25
April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
 

Requirements: 

  • Comfortable with children
  • Patience and empathy
  • Tutoring experience helpful but not required
  • Ability to obtain a Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Must pass IRC background check
  • Availability on Wednesdays 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM
