Location: Hybrid - Sacramento, CA
Duration: Internships require a commitment of 4 months, 15 hours/week, or minimum of 240 hours total. Volunteers require 3-6 hours/week, 4 months minimum.
SCOPE OF WORK:
Through the Ukrainian Newcomers Support Program (UNSP), the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Sacramento will deliver essential psychosocial and mental health support services to Ukrainian community members. This initiative is funded by a two-year grant from the California Department of Social Services (CDSS). As part of the program, IRC Sacramento will provide group support sessions, parenting workshops, and youth wellness programming to help Ukrainian newcomers adjust and thrive in their new communities.
The Ukrainian Newcomers Support Program Intern will work closely with the Senior Community Wellness Specialist and Community Wellness Specialist to support the planning, outreach, setup, implementation, and documentation of trainings and workshops under the Ukrainian Newcomers Support Program (UNSP). The intern will assist in delivering services to groups of Ukrainian newcomers participating in consecutive sessions of programs such as Skills for Psychological Recovery (SPR), Youth Wellness, Pathways to Wellness for Women, and Parent/Caregiver Support Groups.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with program logistics, outreach, and registration for participants in mental health and wellness group sessions;
- Support facilitators with the setup of virtual and in-person sessions, participant tracking, and material preparation;
- Maintain accurate attendance records and assist in data entry and required documentation for reporting;
- Support translation and interpretation of outreach materials and participant communications;
- Communicate with Ukrainian-speaking clients and community members in a culturally respectful and trauma-informed manner;
- Participate in weekly team check-ins and provide logistical and administrative support as needed;
- Assist in collecting participant feedback and contribute to program evaluation and improvement;
- Engage in outreach and community engagement efforts to connect Ukrainian individuals and families with program services and resources;
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Community Wellness Specialist.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in Public Health, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Public Policy, or related fields;
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills;
- Demonstrated cultural humility and sensitivity when working with immigrant and refugee communities;
- Ukrainian or Russian language skills strongly preferred;
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, and Zoom;
- Positive attitude, proactive, and strong attention to detail;
- Able to maintain confidentiality and adhere to IRC policies and procedures;
- Ability to work within normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM;
- Driving is required; must possess a valid driver’s license, proof of active auto insurance, and access to reliable transportation; work-related driving is eligible for reimbursement at the charitable mileage rate
- Flexibility and willingness to support a variety of program needs
