The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Elizabeth, NJ, is looking for volunteers to help with remote English language tutoring for our adult clients. The IRC provides assistance to refugees, immigrants, and asylum seekers by offering free English as a Second Language.

VOLUNTEER DUTIES: We are seeking volunteers to provide one-to-one ESL tutoring, simple English conversation practice, and teach small ESL groups remotely. (You can choose your preference.) The IRC will provide the curriculum, class instructions, and materials. Digital literacy classes are also available to build your technological confidence and share best practices.

PREFERENCES: We are looking for dedicated volunteers who can commit to 2-5 hours per week. Sessions vary from an hour to an hour and a half, meeting 2 to 3 times a week, during weekday mornings, afternoons, and evenings. Consistency is important, so dependable volunteers who will transition through learning levels with our clients are ideal. Minimum 6-month commitment preferred.

NOTE: While second language knowledge is not required, speakers of Creole, Pashto, and Dari are especially welcome.
