Background:
The International Rescue Committee provides opportunities for refugees, asylees, victims of human trafficking, survivors of torture, and other immigrants to thrive in America. Celebrating 50 years of human services in Washington State, the IRC Seattle helps people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities.

Scope of Internship:
This is a hybrid internship supporting elementary-aged students through virtual learning and in-person events at the IRC office. Interns will gain hands-on experience in youth programming, education support, and community engagement.

This is an 8-week program running from June 29–August 20. Interns must be available for the full duration of the program, including preparation time prior to the start date.

Interns will support elementary-aged students (K–5) through virtual classes and in-person learning support during IRC office events. They will also assist students in learning how to use tablets and other technology tools during distribution events.

Location:
Hybrid (IRC office in SeaTac: 1200 S 192nd St, SeaTac, WA 98148 + virtual sessions)

Responsibilities:

Virtual Instruction Support

  • Teach 2–4 virtual classes per week (1 hour each)
  • Support lessons in social-emotional learning (SEL), grammar, reading skills, and STEM
  • Engage K–5 students in interactive, age-appropriate instruction
  • Support classroom management in a virtual setting

In-Person Event Support

  • Assist with student distribution events at the IRC office
  • Help students learn how to use tablets and digital learning tools
  • Support setup and organization of materials during events
  • Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for students and families

Program & Team Support

  • Communicate with staff regarding student participation and engagement
  • Assist with program logistics and preparation before and during the program
  • Participate in team check-ins as needed
  • Occasional administrative support work 

Ideal Candidate

  • Comfortable working with K–5 students
  • Comfortable using and teaching basic technology (tablets, virtual platforms)
  • Reliable, organized, and able to commit to the full program schedule
  • Interested in education, youth development, or nonprofit work

Reports to:
Sr. VRISE Program Coordinator / Education Program Staff

Time Commitment:
Approximately 12 hours per week during the 8-week program. Shifts can be scheduled during regular business hours (M–TH, 10AM–5PM).

This is an 8-week commitment and is required for the full duration of the program (June 29–August 20).
