Volunteers will support refugee students in kindergarten through 8th grade by facilitating engaging, staff-prepared lessons focused on community, American history, and English language development in celebration of the Semi‑quincentennial. Volunteers will work with students in small groups or one-on-one, supervise activities led by guest presenters (such as dance, drumming, and gardening), and help distribute materials. Lessons are differentiated to students’ reading levels and emphasize speaking, listening, reading, writing, and comprehension skills.
This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children and can bring a warm, engaging, and consistent presence. Reliability, punctuality, and a commitment to building trusting relationships with students are essential. Volunteers may also assist with walking students home from the school to a nearby apartment complex (approximately three blocks), if able.
