Youth Program Tutor

There are three programs volunteers can apply for. Volunteers can participate in multiple programs or just one program depending on their interest and availability.

Virtual After School Tutoring Program

Location: Online (IRC Zoom account)

Time Commitment: The after school program will be weekly Tuesday-Thursday between 4:00PM and 6:00PM starting Wednesday, September 22nd. We ask that volunteers commit to attending a minimum of one session per week. 

Responsibilities: This program connects middle and high school students with a trained tutor to provide support with homework, English conversation practice, and tutoring in specific areas tailored to each student. This program is virtual and takes place on Zoom with the supervision of IRC staff.

SUCCESS in School Program

Location: in-person in Prince George's County (exact location disclosed to volunteers)

Time Commitment: The program is every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4:00-6:00pm and will kick off Thursday, October 7th. We request that applicants ensure they are able to volunteer at least once per week for the SUCCESS in School Program.

 Responsibilities: This program takes place at one local middle school and one local high school in Prince George's county. Students from the respective school attend the program after school and meet with a trained tutor to work on homework, participate in social-emotional learning activities, play games, and connect with their peers. This program is held at the local school in person and is led by IRC staff.

Saturday Learning Series

Location: in-person in Prince George's County (exact location disclosed to volunteers)

Time Commitment: The program is every other Saturday from 10:30am-12:30pm and will kick off Saturday, October 9th. We request that applicants ensure they are able to volunteer at least once per month for Saturday Learning Series.

Responsibilities: This program is meant to provide students in elementary through college with additional support on the weekends with homework help, career support, college support, English practice, and relationship building practice. The program is held at a local library in Prince George's county and is led by IRC staff.

Skills & Qualifications: Volunteers must be fluent in English; have some experience working with youth; be culturally sensitive and respectful of diverse backgrounds; able to follow instructions and maintain appropriate relationships with students and staff; able to handle client information confidentially.

How to Apply: The application is currently closed. It may reopen in November to onboard new tutors periodically and as necessary. The interview and training process will be the same each month and the specific dates will be updated on the application.To apply, complete this online application

All interested (new and returning) volunteers must complete the application linked below. After their application is submitted they will be contacted for an interview and then be invited to attend the youth program tutor training on Tuesday, September 14th on Zoom at 6pm.

Saturday Learning Series and SUCCESS in School Program are subject to change due to the evolving circumstances around COVID-19 and will be adjusted accordingly to align with specific school, county, and IRC guidance.

Additional guidance and information will be provided during the interview and training for applicants.
