David Miliband, President and CEO of the International Rescue Committee, said, “We are relieved that the Security Council has voted to renew the cross-border resolution for Syria. Over 2 million Syrians in the northwest of the country are reliant on the mechanism every month for food, water, medicine, shelter and basic services. Knowing this assistance will continue is a small reprieve for families struggling to survive.

“While we are pleased assistance is guaranteed over winter, the continued reduction of the resolution's mandate to only six months will mean that the certainty provided today will once again be short-lived. The passing of Resolution 2672 demonstrates that in the eyes of the Council cross-border assistance is still absolutely essential and key to saving lives. Come July this will inevitably still be the case.”
