The IRC in Charlottesville has been moved and inspired by the outpouring of support we have received from the community in recent weeks. We could not do this life-saving work without the support of our community.  The United States is a country of immigrants with a long, proud history of welcoming and supporting the world’s most vulnerable people to rebuild their lives in America, and Charlottesville has demonstrated it values upholding that tradition.

Our Family Mentor Program matches newly-arrived refugee families with volunteers to help them navigate the first weeks and months in a new city and country.

Thank you for ensuring Charlottesville continues to make #RefugeesWelcome so that all in our community are treated with kindness and compassion.

Donate

Make a tax-deductible donation to the IRC in Charlottesville.  Your donation will be used locally – the majority of the funds we raise are used to offer rent assistance for refugees to bridge the gap between when our initial resettlement funding ends and when a refugee family has secured employment and becomes economically self-sufficient.

Join GenR

GenR—short for Generation Rescue— is a group of young and influential humanitarians between the ages of 25 and 40 who have joined forces with the International Rescue Committee to help people survive conflict and disaster and rebuild their lives.  Inspired, informed and influential, GenR members in Charlottesville—and across the country—engage their communities in support of the IRC through a range of advocacy, educational, networking and fundraising activities.

Fundraise

Host a fundraiser using the IRC in Charlottesville’s Crowdrise page. Get creative – hold a bake sale, run a 5K, throw a dinner party, ask people to donate on your behalf instead of giving you a present to mark your next milestone.

Organize a donation drive.  We accept donations of new and gently used items to distribute to refugees in our community.  Utilize this list of most-needed items.   Recruit your friends, family and neighbors, and have them help you gather items.
